SeagullSand, sun, seagulls, the sound of waves lapping at the shore… balm to the soul. For many years my husband and I had made it a tradition to take the day of our anniversary off and hang out at the beach like a couple of beach bums. It was September 13 and once again the beach was calling. But this particular trip to the beach was like none other. Most years we return with recharged batteries and renewed feelings of love. But this year we brought home a lot more.

IMG_20130214_164329In his book, Discovering our Spiritual Identity, Trevor Hudson says that “God is relentlessly seeking to bring light and life where there seems to be only darkness and death.” Trevor says that when this happens, even in small ways, we experience a “little Easter.” Trevor goes on to say that, “Just about any time we are surprised with new possibilities for life and healing in the midst of brokenness and decay, there is a little Easter that gives us a glimpse of the resurrection power of God’s love.” (more…)

JoshThirty years ago today, on January 13, 1983, before ultrasounds and epidurals were prevalent, my second child was born. I can remember many of the details of that day, including the early morning wake up with contractions and the doctor’s office visit confirming that yes I was in labor. After being sent home to await the shortening of intervals between contractions, my husband and I walked up the street to the corner store in hopes of hastening my labor, and to buy suckers for me to utilize when the pain got intense.
